How to play Hex

Hex is a connection game played on a board of hexagons. You place blue stones to link the top edge to the bottom, while the gold computer tries to link left to right. Stones stay where they are placed and cannot be captured.

  1. This is a 7×7 beginner game without the opening swap rule. You play blue first, connecting the top and bottom edges. The gold computer connects left and right.
  2. Place a stone in an empty hexagon. Adjacent hexagons share an edge; stones cannot be moved or captured.
  3. The first complete path between your two edges wins. Hex has no draws.

Tips for your next round

  • Build toward both of your target edges rather than concentrating all your stones near one edge.
  • Look for connections that can be completed in more than one way. A single fragile route is easier for the opponent to interrupt.

This is a 7×7 beginner version with blue moving first and no opening-swap rule. Hex has no drawn games.
