How to play Sudoku
- 1Fill the 9×9 grid so that every row contains the digits 1 to 9 exactly once.
- 2Every column must also contain each digit 1 to 9 exactly once.
- 3Each of the nine 3×3 boxes must contain each digit 1 to 9 exactly once, too.
- 4Tap a cell, then tap a number on the pad (or press 1–9 on your keyboard). Use the arrow keys to move around.
- 5Switch on Notes (or press N) to jot down possible digits in a cell. Notes are cleaned up automatically when you place a number.
- 6Digits that repeat in a row, column or box turn red. Stuck? Use Hint to fill one correct cell, or Undo to take a move back.
Sudoku FAQ
Is this Sudoku really free?
Yes. You can play as many games as you like in your browser, with no download and no account.
What is the Daily Sudoku?
A new puzzle every day, generated from the date (UTC). Everyone gets the same puzzle on the same day. Solve it on consecutive days to build a streak.
Does every puzzle have only one solution?
Yes. Each puzzle is checked by a solver and has exactly one solution, so it can always be solved by logic without guessing.
Is my game saved if I close the page?
Yes. Your current grid, notes and timer are stored in your browser, so you continue where you stopped. Clearing your browser data also clears the saved game.
What do the difficulty levels change?
The number of given digits. Easy starts with more clues; Expert starts with the fewest and needs more advanced techniques.
