How to play 15 Puzzle
The 15 puzzle, also called the fifteen puzzle or sliding number puzzle, has one empty square and fifteen numbered tiles. Your goal is a board that reads 1 to 15 from left to right, with the empty square in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap a tile next to the empty square to slide it into the gap.
- Arrange 1 through 15 in reading order, with the gap at bottom right.
- Every starting board is scrambled by legal moves, so it is solvable. Arrow keys move the gap.
Tips for your next round
- Work on the top row first, then the left column of the remaining area, instead of chasing one tile around the whole board.
- Think about where the empty square must be before moving a tile. Undo lets you revisit a move that disturbed a finished section.
This is the classic 4×4 version. Starting boards are created by legal moves from the solved position, so every starting board is solvable.
