How to play Peg Solitaire

Peg Solitaire is a single-player jumping puzzle, not a card game. Each jump removes exactly one peg. A move that leaves isolated groups can make the finish impossible, so think about how the remaining pegs will meet again.

  1. Choose a peg, then an empty hole two spaces away horizontally or vertically.
  2. The chosen peg jumps over one adjacent peg, removing it.
  3. Win with one peg anywhere on the board. No legal jumps with several pegs left means a loss.

Tips for your next round

  • Keep enough neighboring pegs available to make later jumps; an isolated peg may be difficult to reach.
  • Plan the last few jumps backward from a possible final peg, and use undo to test another route when a group becomes stranded.

One peg anywhere on the board wins here; you do not have to finish in the center hole.
