How to play Kakuro

Kakuro turns a crossword into a puzzle of number sums. Each white cell belongs to a horizontal and a vertical run. A digit must work for both sums, and no digit can appear twice within either run.

  1. Fill white cells with digits 1–9.
  2. Each horizontal run must add to its row clue, and each vertical run to its column clue.
  3. Digits cannot repeat within a run. Choose a digit, then a cell, or type the digit on a focused cell.

Tips for your next round

  • Start with sums that have few possible digit combinations. The length of the run is as important as its target.
  • At a crossing, keep only digits that can belong to both runs. A row combination that cannot fit the column must be discarded.

The launch collection uses three compact 3×3 crossings and their transposes. Digits remain 1–9, even though the boards are small.
