How to play Hitori

Hitori is a number-shading puzzle with three rules that must hold together. Remove repeats from each row and column by shading cells, keep shaded cells apart along their edges, and leave all unshaded cells connected.

  1. Tap a number to shade or unshade its square.
  2. Among unshaded cells, no number may repeat in a row or column.
  3. Shaded cells cannot share an edge. All unshaded cells must remain connected through edges.

Tips for your next round

  • Once a cell is shaded, its horizontal and vertical neighbors must remain unshaded. Diagonal shaded neighbors are allowed.
  • Before shading a cell, check whether it is the last connection between two white areas. Breaking that connection would violate the rules.

Tap a cell to shade or unshade it. These compact 4×4 boards come from three original base puzzles in different orientations.
