How to play Fox and Hounds
Fox and Hounds is an escape game with unequal sides. You control one blue fox, which may move diagonally forward or backward. The computer controls four gold hounds, which can only move downward toward the fox’s starting side.
- You are the blue fox at the bottom and move first. The computer controls four gold hounds at the top.
- Select the fox, then a neighboring empty diagonal square. The fox moves diagonally forward or backward; hounds move only down toward your starting row.
- There are no captures or jumps. Reach the top row to escape and win. If the fox has no legal move, the hounds win; if no hound can move, the fox wins.
Tips for your next round
- Look for a gap between hounds that they cannot close on their next turn.
- Use the fox’s ability to move backward when a direct advance would leave no escape square. The hounds cannot retreat in the same way.
There are no jumps or captures. Reach the top row to win; the fox also wins if no hound can move. A fox with no legal move loses.
